- Communication & publicity

The Rotarian” Magazine - A major boost to our Club and Districts image due to 11-page cover story for Micro Credit component of our 3H project appeard in “The Rotarian” of May 2007 issue.

Under PR Grants, the club erected two permanent Bill Boards / Hoardings at Jessore Road Highway near 3H project site in the last week of June 2007.

Weekly Metro Voice was published regularly with special editions. Colorful bulletins were published on the important occassions like ”Gift of Sight”, “Vocational Excellence Award Night” “Piyali School” and on “Leg for Legless”.

Published Yearly souvenir on the day of the installation.

An updated Club Roster Tele-index was published.

Awareness was created about Rotary through renowned and excellent speaker in Weekly meeting and also through District officials.
Rotary’s theme and logo was carried all over the city by Rtn Sourajit Pal Choudhuri in his vintage car at the Statesman’s vintage Car Rally
The Website, continued to provide some excellent, and user-friendly information like day to day activities, club projects, important announcements etc.

With time to time coverage in major daily news papers and electronic media, the image of Rotary was promoted.
Press briefings were done during the launch of major projects like “Installation ceremony, Leg for Legless, Gift of Sight, Vocational Excellence Award Night, Prisoner Reform Programme, Launch of Music School at Presidency Correctional Home at Alipore Jail and Piyali School Project & Mission to Sierra Leone”.
Quiz on Rotary related subject was organized at regular weekly meetings.
Seminars were organized for prospective members.
Through Bulletin & Website, absentee members were updated with proceedings of weekly meetings and club activities.
- Fund Raising
A large amount was raised through advertisement sales for the souvenir published in the beginning of the year, on the occasion of the installation of the President.
During the year a large sum were also raised for the various community service projects on a case to case basis.

Excellent and good speakers were invited at weekly meetings, from diverse fields like the Sheriff of Kolkata, Past State Governor, Chief of CBI, Knight of British Empire, Philatelist, Doctors, Journalists, Social activists, etc.

For every designated month of Rotary, PDGs and Senior District officials were invited at weekly meetings, to share their knowledge and experience.

Eminent personalities were invited to speak on special occasion like Teachers Day, International Youth Day etc in schools closely related to our Club.

Club Constitution and Bye-Laws were updated in keeping with changes suggested by Rotary International.

Club is regularly complying with all necessary provisions under Indian Laws. Filed every tax return within prescribed time. Revalidated 80G taxes exemption for the club’s Trust .Ensured all compliance under FCRA

Matching Grant and 3H reports under stewardship observations were submitted on time.

COMMUNITY SERVICES |
RCCM have started “Adult Literacy Campaign” with 17 adults at Sardapally RCC school premises; this number will increase gradually. Enrolled adults are enjoying classroom ambience for two days a week .
- Physically Handicapped

Under MG Project MG # 23521 - 452 Artificial Limbs and 146 Calipers: were provided during the year at a cost of Rs.600,000.

Club’s Leg for Legless projects continued by providing Jaipur foot for Legless persons and calipers for polio victims.

Leg for Legless, an ongoing project is well known in Nepal, Malaysia, Singapore and other districts in India. Plans are afoot to arrange camp at Pakistan for the victim of Kashmir earthquake in collaboration with RC Singapore.
Plans were firmed up for providing employment to 100 physically challenged persons through our partner Mahavir Seva Sadan.
Scholarships to 31 handicapped youth were given.
Independence Day (August 15, 2006) was celebrated in the traditional way by giving freedom to many handicapped persons by providing artificial limbs, callipers and prosthetic arms.
Dr. Nevatia explained the changes in construction of artificial limbs and callipers, especially for enhanced user comfort for below-the-knee amputees, that have been made to make them lighter and more durable by in-house research and development. A few beneficiaries demonstrated the enhancements.

21 scholarships were given to economically challenged handicapped children.
- Mentally Challenged & Underprivileged Children
Underprivileged children of Rainbow (night school at Loreto, Sealdah) were taken on a trip to Alipore Zoo.
DGE Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury presented cheque of Rs.70,000/- to Sri Supriyo Thakur of Sishutirtha, Shantiniketan being a contribution by RCCM for welfare of orphaned children.
New initiative was taken by providing Aid to orphan girls at Pranab Kanya Sangha, Howrah.
- Prisoner Reforms

A new project “Prisoner Reform Programme” at Presidency Correctional Home, was started on 15 August 2006, in association with Satyam Seva Kendra, with Matching Grants # 60636. Exceptional media coverage was received.
Part of the project was completed within current Rotary Year at a cost of Rs 1.35 lacs.

In collaboration with RC Calcutta Metropolitan, on 26th January 07, Pt. Jasraj inaugurated a music school inside the Presidency Correctional Home. Governor of West Bengal Shri Gopal K Gandhi, IG-Prisons, RI Dist 3290 Governor Debasish Mitra, First Lady Papia, Dist. Secretary Saibal Banerjee were present along with our club members.
President and other senior members of our sister club RC Bandar Sunway, Malaysia were also present on the occasion.
- Polio Eradication
RCCM has been regularly participating in all NID and SNID. During the year 5,000 children were immunized.
- Avoidable Blindness

Completed two Matching Grants projects with 6000 IOL surgeries. 1356 surgeries were carried out during July 2006 & April 2007 at a cost of Rs.12.33 lacs.

Danville / Sycamore Valley District- 5160 and Matching Grant project (MG # 55224) with our partner club R C Woodbridge-Perth Amboy District-7510, RCCM was commitment for 5555 cataract surgeries with IOL transplant in collaboration with six eye-care hospitals,was completed successfully during the year

In addition, our own member Rtn (Dr) Neeraja Rateria conducts weekly surgical clinic at Health Point Nursing Home every Saturday.
- General Health Care

Regular Health check-up were carried out at the 4 RCCs.
Rs.191,120 were spent towards health care during July 2006 & April 2007

Our club sponsored Blood Donation Camp 2357 donors donated blood.
- Senior Citizen

35 old lady inmates of Shantiniwas (Behala) and Nabanir (Chetla and Tollygunge) were taken around the city’s puja pandals on a luxury bus as Sharad Parikarma. Snacks and lunch were provided during the tour.

Regularly providing cooking oil to an old age home at Behala.
- Planting of Trees
5500 tree saplings are planted at our RCC village sites during July 2006 & April 2007.
- Infrastructure
Construction of New Road (3H Component) A concrete road has been built from the main road to the railway station for Nabapally residents at a cost of Rs.43,510/-
- Environment & Sanitation
155 low-cost toilets were constructed at at Joypul, Nabapally, Chaltaberia, Sharadapally at a cost of Rs.8.68 Lacs during July 2006 & April 2007.
- Water Management
Safe Drinking Water Project :

Unique multi-club project witnessed 8 (eight) deep Tube-wells were sunk by four clubs of Dist 3290 under our Club’s coordination at a cost of Rs.3.80 lacs.

New Safe Drinking Water project at Arsenic-affected Piyali Village was sanctioned by TRF in June 2007.

For construction of 10 Tube-wells ( Our Club acted as Lead Manager for five other Clubs of RI Dist. 3290).

31tube-wells were constructed at a total cost of Rs.211,000/- during July 2006 & April 2007.Under Matching Grants project (MG# 60601) with RC Folkstone, USA. During March 2007, total amount of Rs.167,633/- were disbursed, out of which, Rs.53,470/- were disbursed to RC Ballygunge, Rs.60,000/- to RC Kolkata South Suburban, and Rs.54163/- to RC Belur, for 3 tube-wells.

RCCM lent its leadership and expertise to five other Rotary Clubs in RI Dist 3290, to satisfy safe drinking water requirements and to provide five tube wells for villages in West Bengal under Matching Grants project (MG# 60601) with RC Folkstone, USA.
- Vocational Tranning

Under Micro Credit Finance for Vocational Services a sum of Rs. 670,000/- was disbursed during the year.

A new & unique VOCATIONAL TRAINING program was initiated on 09 June 2007 whereby rural artisans involved in pottery and clay-modelling in Sharadapalli, one of our four RCCs, were trained and re-skilled by Govt. College of Engineering & Technology, with scheme worked out to improve their facilities with WORLD BANK aid. The Club spent Rs.19,000 on this training program.

RCCM supported additional vocational training facilities involving sewing, stitching, Montessori training for women and motor driving etc for youths.

Rs.1800/- was paid at RCC vocational training centre for women.

Rs.12,500 were paid through Inner Wheel Club of Calcutta Metropolitan towards vocational training centre for underprivileged women at ASHA, Jodhpur Park and also for the inmates of Presidency Jail.

Yoga teachers of Satyam Seva Kendra and technicians for artificial limbs at Mahavir Seva Sadan were trained. Total costs incurred during March 2007 was Rs.16,750/-.

More than Rs 400,000/- under Micro-Credit programme was provided for Vocational Training of women especially for Sewing, knitting, etc.

For self-sufficiency of about 55,000 villagers in 4 RCCs at Joypul, Nabapally, Chaltaberia, Sharadapally, on an on-going basis, appropriate fees was also paid to trainers for providing vocational training to women.
- Sewing – Knitting Machine & Counselling Camp
RCCM has short listed large numbers of beneficiaries to impart training. Applicants shall be funded to complete their professional courses. For this purpose a sewing & knitting machine training centre has been set up at Rotary Guidance Centre at Joypul village.

RCCM has purchased for Rotary Guidance Centre, adequate numbers of sewing and knitting machines for “Vocational Training”.

- TRF Contributions
Highest per capita contribution in Dist 3290 - As many as 30 members contributed to TRF taking total cash contribution over $35,000, @ US$ 670 per capita based on initial 52 members
- Seminar
RCCM was one of the co-hosts for The Rotary Foundation Seminar organised by RI District 3290 on 25/11/2006. Rtn Suraj Mundhra was declared Major Donor, Rtn Anup Chatterjee was declared PHF member and three other members were awarded certificates for becoming MPHFs.

- International Friendship Exchange & Matching Grants project

International Service with its International Matching Grants & implementation partners (also sister club) Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway, Malaysia, was celebrated. Their President and 3 senior members and technicians visited our project sites. The technicians were trained in fixing artificial limbs for proper follow-up of our Leg for Legless project in Malaysia.

A video presentation on club’s International Service projects with funds received from RC Bandar Sunway, was shown, which was highly appreciated. Total cost incurred by the club during March 2007 on International Services was Rs.60,050/-.
- World Understanding & Peace

International Service was celebrated on the eve of World Understanding & Peace Day, in presence of its International as well as local implementation partners in its Matching Grants & 3-H projects.

International Exchange (visit to RI HQ)

Hony. Secretary Dr. Binod Binaykia and his wife Anne Dr. Anjula visited Rotary International Headquarters at Evanston, Chicago, USA on 25 March 2007 and met RI President - Nominee and other key senior officials there.

An initiative was is taken, in collaboration with Pace Universal, USA, for the education of underprivileged girls, vocational training of poor women and safe drinking water for villagers at Piyali village. This is Rotary International’s Pilot Project to be replicated in 50 other centers worldwide. The project was recommended by RI President Bill Boyd and presented at United Nations, where it was applauded
